My Review of Premium Rush

"Premium Rush" is one of the last Summer movies of 2012, and usually the movies that come out around this time are NOT good, and "Premium Rush's" release date has been getting moved around a lot, so I wasn't sure how this movie was going to turn out. I can say "Premium Rush" is far from being a fantastic movie, but I can also say it's a good last minute Summer action movie!

The movie follows a bike messenger (Joesph Gordon-Levitt) who picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop (Michael Shannon), who pursues the cyclist throughout the city. The story structure in this film is a lot different then most movies. The whole movie takes place in a one day and cuts-back and forth from the present to a few hours earlier a couple of times. All those flashback's provided back story and told why some of these people want this ticket so badly. The technique was actually kind of clever and didn't really bug me, nor did the Clock and GPS navigation graphics on the screen at times.

The cast in the movie does a pretty good job! As usual, Joesph Gordon-Levitt gives another good performance as Wilee! I'm looking forward to seeing Levitt in two more movies this year, "Looper" and "Lincoln". You also have Michael Shannon who plays the villain in this movie, he does an OK job but at times I felt like he was just overdoing his role! But Shannon and Levitt throughout the movie are actually pretty funny!

The best part of this movie though is probably the bike chases through NYC. They are just very well done and keep you really interested in the movie! I give director, David Koepp, some credit for shooting those! I'm now wondering if Joesph Gordon-Levitt did his own stunts, because if he did, he did a great job! With all that, they also throw in some funny dialogue and a great soundtrack, that make the movie all worth it! And it all goes pretty quick because the movie's only 1 Hour and 31 Minutes!

The only real problem I had with this movie was some of the subplots! Like the one with Wilee's girlfriend, and the one with his dumb and cocky friend, and the one with the person who needs the ticket back. These really slow down the movie. But some of them that I didn't like are needed to explain the movie, therefore they probably have to be there! The movie can also be kind of silly, ridiculous, and unbelievable at times but honestly I think that's all part of the fun!

Overall "Premium Rush" is a surprisingly good Summer escapism, and a very decent action movie! There's really nothing else to say! I would go see this in theaters if it looks good to you, if it does you will probably have a fun time! If it doesn't look interesting to you from the trailer, you might not have as fun of a time! I'm gonna tell you that after you see this movie you will probably never look at cyclists the same way!

Verdict: 3.5 out of 5

This movie will probably not do very well at the Box Office, because it wasn't marketed very well at all!

  1. Nothing new that we haven’t seen or heard before, but it still has some fun with itself, even if the writing really takes away from it. Nice review Connor.

    1. Yes! I totally agree! And your right, with a better script the movie could have been a "Premium" (Pun Intended) Action Movie! But still, a good last miunte Summer action movie! And thank you! I read your review as well, great review!
