My Review of Hope Springs

"Hope Springs" is one of those movies this year where I wasn't dying to see it, but I felt I definitely should see it! So going in my expectations were not the best, but also not the worst! After seeing the movie I can say It's no where near being my favorite movie of 2012. But I can say it is a well done movie!

The movie follows Kay (Meryl Streep), who is trying to rekindle her relationship with her husband, Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones). In order to do that she goes to a specialist, Dr. Feld (Steve Carell). The story actually works out pretty good, although as you probably noticed, It's been done about a thousand times, but I'll get to that later!

The cast does a pretty good job. Although, I didn't really think that their were any STAND OUT performances in the film! I mean the whole cast still did a good job. Just not a great job! I've seen a lot better from Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carell. I will say though, I don't think any other cast could have pulled this kind of movie off. So kudos to them!

One thing I wasn't impressed with, like I mentioned early, was that the movie's plot has been told just WAY to many times! But I will say that this particular story, with this particular cast, works a lot better then most of these movies do.

I also was disappointed that this movie ended up being pretty predictable. I went in with REALLY high hopes that it wasn't going to be predictable, but sadly it was. Another tiny nitpick I have is they could have spent more time outside of Dr. Feld's office. It just seems like a lot of the movie time was spent there and they could have made it more interesting by going different places.

I must also add that most of the humor in this movie falls flat.  If you are older you will probably laugh quite a bit and love the movie. Mainly due to the humor. If you are younger, you might not like the movie and not even laugh once. That's just how this movie works. It's target audience is older adults. Therefore, if you have young kids, don't take them to this because you will feel very awkward throughout the movie. Do to some of the Adult Content!

But anyway, what definitely made the movie for me was the story, and that it was a nice break from all the   Summer Blockbusters. So this year, "Hope Springs", was that Summer Blockbuster Break. And I can tell you that it was a good break!

Overall I have quite a few complaints for "Hope Springs", but the movie is completely saved by it's cast and story, and is a movie I still think you should just wait to rent! But still see sometime! But like I said earlier, it's a nice break from all the really BIG Blockbusters of Summer 2012!

Verdict: 3.5 out of 5

I do believe this movie will be kind of a surprise hit! Like last year's "The Help". Only I must say "The Help" was quite a bit better then this.
